Five minutes with Cody Simpson

Fresh off the release of his new album 'Paradise', we caught up with Cody Simpson to talk all things love, life and his friendship with the Biebs (we're so jelly)!

DOLLY: Congratulations on the new album 'Paradise'! Can you tell us a bit about it?
Cody: Thank you so much! I'm pretty stoked that it's finally out. I've been waiting so long and I've been working so hard on it. I encourage all my Aussie fans to go check it out and show it some love. There are a lot of cool, chilled beach vibe tracks on it as well as a lot of awesome dance songs.

DOLLY: Do you have any plans for an Australian tour now that your album is out?
Cody: Yeah! I'm probably going to do a 'Paradise' tour next year, starting in the US around February or March, and then hopefully heading to other places after that. Australia is definitely at the top of my list. I haven't really had the chance to do many concerts at home so I'm really excited.

DOLLY: How do you get inspiration when writing your songs?
Cody: Well the album is essentially about girls (laughs). Which is fine with me because I'm a 16-year-old guy, you know...

DOLLY: Speaking of tours, you're also supporting Justin Bieber on his upcoming tour, right?
Cody: Yes! I actually just got back to the US today and I have a rehearsal tomorrow and then the first show is in two days. Justin asked me to join him for the first week of his tour so I was really honoured to do that. He is a good mate of mine and I'm pretty stoked to perform with him and Carly [Rae Jepsen].

DOLLY: Do you and Justin hang out when you're not working?
Cody: We catch up from time to time. It's good to have friends in the music business because you can relate to each other's lives. Sometimes he'll text me and say, "Are you in LA? Come to the studio. I wrote a song idea for you." He's been in the business for a few more years than me so it's going to take a while to catch up to him but he's a good mate and its cool to have his support.

DOLLY: Do you still get time to do normal stuff like hang out with friends in LA?
Cody: I do get the chance every once in a while. I go surfing whenever I can or have my mates over at my house. It can get crazy sometimes so we usually just chill at home or go to small parties and stuff.

DOLLY: What's the best way a fan can get your attention on social media? Do you actually look at your Twitter mentions?
Cody: I definitely do! I think it's super important to read messages from your fans and I will always chat to them online and answer their questions.

DOLLY: Would you ever date one of your fans?
Cody: Whether it's a relationship or you're just hanging out, it usually happens naturally so depends on what the situation was like. But I guess so, yeah!

DOLLY: Describe your dream girlfriend.
Cody: I love someone with a similar personality to mine, someone that's chilled and someone that doesn't take things so seriously. I also like someone that's classy!

DOLLY: When was your first kiss and what was it like?
Cody: I was 13 and it was awesome. I was in LA and it was with an Australian girl. I took her to this cool hotel in Beverly Hills which had a romantic garden on the rooftop. It felt like a fairytale setting. We hung out there and it kind of happened naturally.

DOLLY: What's the most romantic thing you have ever done?
Cody: The way I like to get my feelings out is to write music. So if I'm into a girl I'll probably write a song for her.

DOLLY: Sooo... are you single?
Cody: Yep! I'm single.

DOLLY: You have a lot of famous friends in LA — what's it like hanging out with Kendall and Kylie Jenner?
Cody: I get to go over to their place and hang out whenever I have some time off. It's always fun! Like I said before, it's good to have friends who understand your situation and the position you're in.

DOLLY: Do you just chill out at their house or do you go out in LA together?
Cody: It's kind of hard with the paparazzi always around so we usually chill privately. If we go to the mall, like we've tried a couple of times, it doesn't seem to work out (laughs).

My favourite food is... Italian.

My favourite movie is... The Dark Knight.

My dream date location is... The beach.

My celebrity crush is... Miranda Kerr.

DOLLY: Is there a message you would like give to your fans?
