As Wizards of Waverly Place comes to an end (boo!), we caught up with stars of the show Selena Gomez and David Henrie to find out all about their magical journey over the years.
How do you look back on the show?
SG: It's been fun. It's been great. We had a great run, and being able to say that I was on this show for four years and got to be with a great cast is not something that a lot of people can say. I feel very grateful for that.
What has been your most magical memory?
SG: The laughs. There was never just one distinct memory. We had a lot of memories every day.
DH: We had a lot of fun in Puerto Rico; that was a really good experience. We got to shoot in a beautiful place and be with family. It was nice.
How emotional was the last day?
SG: It was very emotional. The last day, we ended the series with only me, David and Jake because everybody else had series wrapped already. We went in and I was trying to avoid it as much as I can. I was trying to continue doing the scene, and when they said that it was series wrap on my character, that was so hard. I just started crying and I couldn't stop.
DH: When you're 16 years old and you have in your head that it's going to go for five years, you think it's forever. But literally at that moment, when it finally sunk it, I was like "Wow, I'm really here right now. This is really the end of the show." It hit me all at once. It was surreal.
What about the day after the last day?
DH: I was so sad. I didn't think I was going to be so sad. I didn't expect to feel almost heartbroken.
Did you keep your wands?
SG: Yes, it was a gift from the producers on the show. They gave me, David, and Jake our wands in a little glass case with engraving on it.
Did the show end the way you wanted it to?
SG: I think it was good. I think it was right what they did.
DH: I think it was right where it should be. I was hoping for something original, and it was. It was really dramatic and creative and fun to watch. It had all of that. I think people will love it.
What were your favourite episodes?
SG: I never really had a favourite episode. I remember season three. It was my favourite. We knew we had another one. We all just played against each other, and just wanted to make each other better. It was the best season, I think.
DH: It was a lot of fun. The coolest experience for me was the first episode I wrote, sitting at the table read, saying my name and hearing people laugh at jokes that I wrote. Aside from acting, that was a whole other satisfaction on top of all of it. That was a unique experience for me.
Can you let us in on any funny bloopers from the series?
DH: I think why the show is so accessible and easy to watch and has done so well is when you watch the show, it is literally like you are watching a family that you can relate to. So when one of us would mess up, we were like a family and we had each other's backs. We would cover it up or poke fun at it and then everyone laughs at it. We never had a tense set and I think that's what makes for such nice chemistry.
