We were lucky enough to catch up with Harry Potter starlet Emma Watson to find out all about saying goodbye to Hermione and what's next for Hollywood's hottest young actress.
Do you feel like you really got to know the character of Hermione in the last Harry Potter movie?
It was both amazing and exhausting to make two films in one go. You really have to stay in character, and you really have time to develop it. There's so much back story and history and so many things that you can bring into it. It was really interesting to play this last film, definitely.
Looking back at all the films it seems like it was a very interesting learning curve. Do you feel that you grew up as an actress in a lot of the films?
Absolutely. The fact that I had the chance to work with four different directors is amazing and each film has its own individual character. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 was incredibly physical learning how to do those stunts, action sequences and very intense, emotional scenes. I feel like I've been to the best acting school in the world. I feel like nothing will ever be as challenging. Having to work with so many special effects and imagine everything; it's been a real exercise for my mind and my body. It's been amazing!
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 follows the journey into your older years. Do you feel like this experience will translate into your real life as you get older?
Oh, absolutely! What I've learned through this, I will bring with me everywhere.
Do you think your experience with Harry Potter has prepared you for your future films like The Diary of a Wall Flower?
While I was filming Harry Potter, I realised that it was really setting me up for future roles. There's pretty much nothing they can throw at me that would shock me now. I've jumped on dragons, I've flown on broomsticks, I've worked with animals and I've done special effects. So, as I said, it's set me up really well.
Is your description of Hermione different today as it was 10 years ago?
Yes!
How do you feel about her now that you've grown up with her on-screen?
Hermione starts off as this girl who was just so eager to please. She thought that winning the teachers' approval was more important than anything else. By the last movie, she had developed into this young woman who was very independent. She now knows what's right and she follows her heart. With courage and determination, she developed into the kind of woman I would want to be. Hermione is an amazing role model. I have to thank Jo [Rowling], for creating her as this incredibly strong woman. She set a new standard and I hope people see it and take notice of that.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is available on DVD, Blu-Ray or Digital Download from the 16th of November.
