We caught up with homegrown superstar Jessica Mauboy to chat about everything from her new single 'What Happened to Us' to her time in high school.
How did you come up with the music video for 'What Happened to Us'?
I've got a great creative team behind me who I work closely with. For this video it was all about lost love and they really helped me bring my vision to life.
Did you enjoy working with Jay Sean?
Yes! We had a ball shooting the video. He's a really talented artist.
How has your life changed since your recent success?
I am a lot busier!
Would you consider a duet with Justin Bieber?
I think Justin is a great young talent, so if the song was right then yes — game on!
When did you first become interested in music?
Music has always been my passion, ever since I was a little girl singing Mariah Carey songs with my hairbrush in front of the mirror!
Who inspires you?
My family, they've always been my rock.
How do you like to spend your downtime?
I try to get home to Darwin whenever I can.
If you weren't in the music industry, what would you be doing?
That's a really hard question because I have never wanted to do anything else!
What is your favourite thing to do?
Perform! Nothing beats getting on stage and putting on a killer show for your fans.
Do any of the stories told in your songs relate to your own stories?
Sometimes when I'm writing and performing I draw on my feelings and life experiences. So yes!
What has been the best moment of your career so far?
There have been so many great moments! Probably going to Los Angeles to write and record the Get 'em Girls album with some of the most amazing producers and artists in the world.
What is a typical day like in the life of Jessica Mauboy?
Every day is seriously different. There is no "typical day" really. But it sure keeps my life exciting!
Are you excited about touring with Chris Brown?
Yes, I am so excited to get out and perform and see all my amazing fans!
What was high school like for you?
I enjoyed high school. Darwin is a great place to grow up and I had lots of great friends.
