Earth Hour

Green Tip #22: Earth Hour is this Saturday night!

Wednesday, March 25, 2009
What have you got planned for this Saturday night? Whatever it is, we hope it involves turning off all the electricity in your house for one hour, 'cos it's Earth Hour time again!

The exact hour is from 8.30pm-9.30pm Eastern Daylight-saving Time on Saturday, March 28, 2009, and if you haven't heard of it before, the idea is you turn off all the lights, TVs, CD players etc in your house for one hour. By lots and lots and lots of people doing this at the same time, collectively our carbon emissions into the atmosphere are significantly reduced. Too easy!

Don't fancy sitting around in the dark?
It doesn't have to be boring while the lights, TV and 'puter are off, though. Think about how much fun can be had! Invite a couple of GFs around for a sleepover, switch off the DVD player at 8.30pm for an hour and play murder in the dark or just sit and talk.

Are you getting involved in Earth Hour?
What are you and your friends planning to do while the lights are out? Share your ideas for how to make it as fun as possible below!

It's such a ridiculously easy way to help the environment, we hope y'all are getting on board.

DOLLY TV caught up with some other DOLLY readers to see their thoughts on the environment and Earth Hour, look out for a very 'innovative' idea for re-cycling greetings cards, watch the chat here!

While earth hour does make a differance, this is only ONE hour ONCE a year. people need to take action all year round! Unplug ur computer at the wall, turn the lights off when you leave the room. walk to ur friends house or if its to far...get public transport. I APPLAUD PEOPLE THAT TAKE THIS ACTION also...why bother going on to the website to 'sign up'? What a waste of your time!! no one HAS to know that your doing it...u can just do it. ................if you have every driven through the city(i live in brisbane) at night. the amount of work places that leave their lights on WHEN NO ONE IS THERE is AMAZING. SAVE THE PLANET! x.jes
I will be involved with Earth hour upon there being no GrandPrix, Football, Rugby, NightClubs, Public Transport and Electricity making on at the same time. Why should the rest of us do this when we are not being lead from the people or supposedly know better. Get over your gimmick or pick a better time to do this.
Earth Hour does not actually 'save energy'. The same amount of fossil fuels are burnt every day as a quota, and if the energy isn't used within the day it just goes to waste. Sure Earth Hour is a good way of raising awareness of the problems, but the belief that it does more is unfortunately untrue. We have to aim to lessen our use of energy all day, every day as a whole population, so that on average our power usage is less, therefore the fossil fuel quota will be reduced.
I am going to write a bonafide old school letter, by candlelight, with my quill and ink, upon environmentally sustainable parchment of the most pompous sort, to the authorities demanding Earth Hour take place at 11 30pm-12 30am upon the night of the 31st December, 2009. Then I will mail it by way of bicycle courier, directly from Sydney to Canberra, and insist that it be read by only the most esteemed lawmakers, and that all business should be put on permanant hold until a decision can be agreed upon regarding the matter.
In my opinion couple's partners all over anyone, take time to listen to each other, 1hr could help you both better understand each other and talk about things that are important to you both, changing it from earth hr to, our hr. 1 other thing you could do is massage each other set your timer 25mins each 1 you get to feel without the light's on and can bond you both closer what you do after well have fun, and its better then doing nothing use this time as best as you can, lastly 1 hrs walk turn everything of go for that walk as a group couple or alone, could do you the world of good
I love earth hour. Nothing better than sitting around and burning candles to save the planet!
