Each week, DOLLY's resident greenie, Gerdy, will share her knowledge of all things eco-friendly.
Gerdy's green tips #9
Green tip for this week:
Don't bottle it up
Plastic water bottles may be convenient, but the cost they have on the environment is massive. In Australia alone, over 500, 000 barrels of oil are needed to produce and transport the stuff each year!
With bottled water also causing over 70,000 tonnes of pollution to enter into our skies, and more than half ending up dumped in mother earth, we need to rethink the use of these bottles.
It's time to get yourself a funky, heavy-duty bottle that you can re-use over and over again. Or, if you like your water of the filtered variety, ask your parents to install a water filter.
Doing your bit for the planet is really that simple!
Green benefits:
- Drinking water from a glass or a bottle you can re-use will put a stop to pollution-causing packaging.
- No more packaging means less pollution which in turn leads to a cleaner environment.
