Want to be the blog-o-sphere's next big thing? We get the inside word from some of the world's best bloggers to have you shaking up the web in no time, dahlings!
A About page
The all-important "About me" page the hardest and most important piece of content to write. This is the first place new visitors look to find out more about you. It should be reflective of you, share what's important to you and give the reader an idea of who you are. Make sure you write about yourself in third person (scary, yes, but it's how the professionals do it!) and keep it to a few paragraphs. Don't forget a portrait shot too!
B Bank of blog post ideas
If staring at your computer screen for an hour without knowing what to write sounds all too familiar then listen up! Instead of wasting your precious time trying to come up with something cool to write about, create a bank of blog post ideas. This is a long list of topics or events you'd like to cover on your blog. When you start freaking out about what to write, check your bank and choose an idea that inspires you for the day.
C Cite, always
Ah, the all-important citing your sources. This means ALWAYS listing where you sourced your images and content.
D Design and template
Whether you use a pre-made template or ask a web-savvy friend to design a custom look, the design of your blog is what everyone will notice first. Keep your background white, your text dark and make sure any hyperlinks are in a different colour to the main body text. Keeping your colour scheme muted is also heaps profesh!
E Event mingling
This one is just as important as it is fun! Get on your local PR company's email list so you can keep in the loop with any upcoming events. Runway shows, product showings and launch parties are a great place to meet fellow bloggers and make industry contacts.
F Facebook page
It's super important to have as many social media bases for your blog. This means creating a Facebook page, Twitter account and Tumblr. Invite your friends to "like" your pages, update them daily and don't forget to sync them with your other digital channels.
G Goals
Set goals, make mistakes, take risks and push yourself. Make a vision board, create a bank of blog posts, study your statistics and give your site a refresh. As you reach your goals you can cross them off and reward yourself!
H Humour
While some people are naturally funny; born with the gene the tell stories with a punch, many people are not. In fact, learning to write with humour can be one of the toughest skills to master as a blogger. Our top tip? Read, read, read! The more you read, the easier it will be for your brain to tap into its comedic genius. Honest!
I Instagram
Believe it or not, this photo-publishing tool isn't just an awesome time-waster; it can actually help your blog! Use your photos as a voice and don't forget to speak LOUD. Share your photos on your Twitter feed and Facebook profile, too. Who knows, you might pick up a few more followers!
J Journalism
Not the strongest writer? Don't fret! There are some super easy ways you can apply journalism techniques to your blog for stronger posts. Title your post like a headline, interview the source to gain readers' trust, use quotes correctly and do some background research. Writing about Hailee Steinfeld's latest red carpet look? Look up the designer and include some history or interesting facts in your post.
K Keep up with digital trends
It's super important to keep up with the digital trends sweeping the blog-o-sphere. Is there a new social media platform taking off? Are your fave bloggers using a new photo processor? Get on it.
