Joy and Appreciation of life!

Dear Dolly InnerGirl,
I am in year 9 and my school has started to talk about careers. I know I definitely want to work with children but don’t know what type of job I want. I just feel as though there is so much to learn. I know you won't be able to tell me exactly what to do but maybe you could guide me.
I am only one of few that don’t what they want to be. I don’t think I could be a counsellor because I'm not hard-skinned but maybe that is something that I would get used to. Nothing is really popping out at me. Is this normal for someone my age not to know what they want to do with their life?
A, WA
A:
Hey A,
This is an interesting part of your growing into an adult. Research seems to suggest that you will probably have more that one full on career in your lifetime. So now the fun begins. Observe your feelings, from now on. When you feel a sense of fun and your interest has been stimulated, see what that is. You express an interest in children. So observe them and feel inside if that is your “path with heart” Perhaps begin baby sitting too so that you get real experience (and make some pocket money) You will soon find, with direct experience if childcare floats your boat.

Dear Dolly InnerGirl,
I’m friends with this girl who randomly puts me down as a joke. She doesn’t say she is joking so it hurts me even more! She and her friends will run away whenever they see me for no reason. She has made me cry on many occasions. I finally cracked it at her and told her that I hated the way she treated me. Now she gives me the cold shoulder completely. I’m so sad and I really want to move schools. I have kept this bottled up for 3 years. I am going to be a total loner if this continues. Please, please help me!
J, NSW
A:
Hi J,
Would it be possible that at this moment, being alone is a better solution than being others target for fun? There is aloneness and there is loneliness. They are two very different attitudes. Aloneness is part of the ups and downs of life. Like everything else, it passes. Why not enjoy this current state? Use this time for doing something you enjoy. This could mean doing more exercise, reading, doing art, or joining a team or group outside school that’s doing stuff you haven’t gotten round to. This life is so full of stuff that taking time out is really, like really, important.
Doing volunteering too is a fantastic way to feel happy.
Vinnies shops I hear need many more volunteers to sort through donations. Now that might be fun!
