I finally got around to organising my iTunes. While I was pottering around on the puter, I couldn’t help but think what a top year 2008 has been for new music already, and it’s only April!
Freebie alert! We just got word UK rockers Coldplay will be releasing a free single for download today.
Last week a handful of DOLLY chicks hit Fox Studios for a very special DVD launch, the 20th anniversary re-release of Dirty Dancing. Diehard Dirty Dancing fans that we are, it was unsurprisingly the highlight of our week.
I just had to let you know that I got an interesting phone call yesterday from one Holly Owen, the woman behind the mobile game Coolest Girl In School, which I blogged about a couple of weeks ago. Obviously I was surprised to hear from her and I figured you'd be just as curious to hear what she had to say about the game. So with that in mind I asked Holly to do a bit of a guest-blog about how she came up with the idea for the game and how she feels about all the crap she’s been getting for it. Here is what she had to say…
I was youcruising (wandering aimlessly around youtube) the other day when I chanced upon this video.
They hail from Las Vegas like the Killers, look a little bit like Motley Crew but sound kind of like Panic! All in all it’s a nice mix of irony, punk and pop. Check out their cool video (which is a parody of Van Halen’s Hot for Teacher) below and remember you heard it here first.

A new game for your mobile called Coolest Girl In School is copping loads of criticism from parents groups and religious organisations for promoting poor values in young women.
The game which is due for release in January simulates life in highschool. Players must attempt to climb the social ladder by gossiping, bullying, taking drugs, getting pregnant and wagging school. The game creators have defended the content, which won’t be moderated or classified as it’s only available on mobile phones, saying they were trying to appeal to teenage girls who weren’t usually into games.
We’re not surprised the usual talking heads are up in arms over the content, but what we want to know is how developers researched for the game? Last time we checked getting pregnant, taking drugs and the rest of it wasn’t a one-way ticket to popularity.
What do you think? Would you play Coolest Girl In School or do you think it sounds lame?
I’d love to hear your thoughts!

G'day :)
I'm still riding high on the buzz of last night, which was the second annual Dolly Teen Choice (DTC) Awards. As you can imagine yesterday was a bit of a write-off at Dolly HQ as we were all too excited about the night ahead to do anything too serious pants. Hair and make-up artists arrived at the office around lunch time to pretty us up (such a treat, thanks bron!!) while we scurried around trying on dresses. I had to hit the make-up chair early so we could get our sh*t together and head to Luna Park to prepare for the red carpet coverage.
There were already heaps of readers lined up along the barricades when I arrived at 4pm which was great to see. Once we got our techy stuff sorted out (microphones, cameras etc) it was time to get down to business. An endless stream of celebs sashayed down the red carpet, all looking fabulous of course. My personal favourites were the channel V crew (love Jane Gazzo!), Nathan from Video Hits (what a hot rod) and Delta Goodrem. Delts looked stunning in an orange and white one-shouldered dress by Josh Goot (who is showing at New York Fashion Week as we speak) and amazing gold jewellery by Bvlgari.
Bona fide heart throb Dean Geyer kicked things off with two tracks and caused most of the audience to lose their voice within the first ten minutes of the show. Getaway guy Jules Lund did a sweet job of hosting with “raddest radio DJ” winner Jackie O (she and Kyle beat crowd favourites Hamish and Andy for the top spot). All in all it was a bonza night, so good in fact I reckon some other award shows could take a leaf or two from our paperback. Specifically
- Keep speeches short – no one spoke for more than a minute. This is great. There’s only so many times you can say thank you and thank God.
- Amp up entertainment – the talking was broken up by heaps of live performances from Dean Geyer, Amy Pearson, Rick Lee Coulter and Vanessa Amarossi leaving no boring bits. Great success.
- Keep it real – the nominees were seated in the crowd with the readers which was awesomeo, and everyone was having a cracker time - the Neighbours and Home and Away kids even partied together, shock horror!
Stay tuned for more DTC goodness including rad interviews with your favourite stars by yours truly.
Til then
Stay safe, be legal

Hey friends
I couldn't not post something about the new britney single Gimme More. It was "leaked" this week (and i use the term very loosely because if britney wanted it to stay safe from the blogosphere she could) and has been the subject of er, enthusiastic debate. If you ask me (and yes I know, you didn't) I think it's tres disappointing. The sample/effect that's been used for "more" sounds a bit scary, like one of those people who has a hole in their throat from too many cigarettes is singing it. Actually given her recent form that may not be far from the truth. Haha sorry that was a cheap shot. Anyway in all seriousness i think it's a shame she couldn't have gotten someone really great like Kanye on board to produce the new songs and take things in a new direction, god knows she needs it.
Here's the track so you can make up your own mind.
