DOLLY scored an exclusive interview with Harry to chat about One Direction's latest album, rumours and of course, the ladies!
It's 5.30am Sydney time on a Saturday morning. But for Harry Styles, his Friday night in London is just getting started and what better way to kick it off than with a quick chat with DOLLY? As we nervously wait for the operator to connect us through to one fifth of the biggest band in the pop world (the boy responsible for stealing many a teenage heart), we're soon greeted with the cheeky chap himself.
"Hello! How are you?" says Harry down the phone line, his voice low and his English accent thick. It takes 3.47 seconds for us to comprehend that we're talking to Harry. THE Harry in the "Live While We're Young" video clip. THE video clip that we watch 14 times a day. "The song is about the importance of having fun," says Harry. "While you're young you need to enjoy yourself and make sure you don't take life too seriously. You know, you're not a kid for very long when you think about the whole time you're alive, so you have to enjoy it while it lasts."
In just two weeks, Harry, Louis, Zayn, Liam and Niall clocked up over 48 million YouTube hits with "LWWY". Yep, One Direction are back (did they actually ever go anywhere?) and they're bringing a new album, Take Me Home, with them. The boys even collaborated with Ed Sheeran on a couple of tracks. "My favourite memory from working on the album was probably the days we were in the studio with Ed and just how much fun we had recording with him. He's a super-super talented guy and a great musician," says Harry.
So what can we expect from Take Me Home? "'Live While We're Young' is probably a good link between our first and second album," says Harry. "I wouldn't say the whole of the second album is like this song but definitely a good amount of it has the same sort of vibe. We wrote a lot more of this album from our own experiences. My favourite track is track number three. But I can't tell you what it's called!" he laughs. DOLLY can reveal that the tracklist has since been released, which means that "Little Things" is Harry's fave!
But our chat with Harry wasn't only restricted to the music. As soon as we mention girls and question his number one flirty move, we sense that typical cheeky smirk come across his face. "I don't really have 'moves'," Harry laughs. "I think just when you talk to people, a lot of girls like it. A lot of people don't realise how easy it is to just have a conversation with someone, make eye contact, act confident," he says. I cut in, "And maybe a flick of that lovely curly hair of yours?" Harry laughs down the phone line. "Maybe that too," he quips.
It's not only his hair that has girls the world over crushing on him. This sweetie sounds like he'd make the perfect BF. "A good boyfriend should always be honest," says Harry. "He should always compliment her; always tell her how he feels about her and make sure she always knows. And he should always be loyal. If the sky was the limit, I'd take my girl on a date to Hawaii or Paris!"
He may be just 18, but we've already watched a string of ladies fall under the Harry spell. With his love life so openly documented in the tabloids, Harry gives us some romantic advice. "How do you know when you're in love? I don't think there is anything that kind of characterises it. You can't just, like, tick boxes but when it is, it just is, and you know," says Harry. And if it goes pear shaped? "I think you just have to kind of do stuff, you know. Hang out with friends and people who are going to help you forget about it. If you sit in the whole time, you're not going to get anywhere." We'd suggest blasting "LWWY".
