Chat Admin: Hi guys, welcome to the Taylor Swift live chat! Taylor's here to chat with you about her new album and her trip to Australia, she’ll answer as many questions as possible in the 30 minute chat period. Fire away!
Question: Hey taylor! Love you!! What was it like performing at CMAs in 2008?
Taylor Swift: It was awesome and so much fun getting to win the Horizon Award. Award shows are really fun cause you get to do crazy things you wouldn't usually do.
Question: What do you think is your favourite song?
Taylor Swift: My favourite song changes each week but right now it's Thinking of You by Katy Perry or Use Somebody by Kings of Leon.
Question: Where do you think you will tour in the future? any plans?
Taylor Swift: I have a 5 month tour of the USA that I start in a few weeks, and I'll be going back to the UK this summer. And I want to come back to Australia as soon as possible.
Question: What inspires you to write your music / songs?
Taylor Swift: I'm pretty fascinated by love so I write most of my songs about relationships. But I don't have to be in a relationship to write a song about somebody. Most of my inspiration comes from boys
Question: You've been the opening act for artists like Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Brad Paisley,George Strait and Rascal Flatts. Who did you enjoy opening for the most?
Taylor Swift: I had fun on all the tours but the Brad Paisley is when I met my best friend Kellie Pickler so I will always remember that tour. Tim and Faith are my most favourite people in the world so that tour takes No. 1 spot. Faith used to leave me presents in my dressing room!
Question: Can anything beat being on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine?
Taylor Swift: I couldn't believe I got to be on the cover, and it's hard to think of anything that could beat that honestly, other than being on the Rolling Stone cover again.
Question: Are you looking forward to opening for Oz's Keith Urban in June/August?
Taylor Swift: I've always wanted to tour with Keith Urban so we made sure we scheduled some co-headlining shows with him and I'm so glad to be a part of that. He and Nicole are so sweet.
Question: Welcome to Australia!! How is the tour going and have you managed to get in some sight seeing & shopping?
Taylor Swift: I've got to do a lot of travelling and seeing different cities. First Brisbane then Canberra then a show in the Snowy. I've just got to Sydney from Melbourne. I love Australia the people are so nice and I can't wait to come back.
Question: What do you like to do with your spare time, if you have any?
Taylor Swift: When I have spare time I like to drive around and listen to music I go on iTunes and get a bunch of cd's to listen to. Other times I like to sit at home and bake, or hang out with my friends or my band.
Question: Who do you think inspired you to start writing music in the first place?
Taylor Swift: I was inspired by a lot of different people growing up but most of all Shania Twain. I loved how she wrote her own music and toured all over the world. I started writing when I was 12 and I've not been able to stop since it's my favourite thing in the world.
Question: The bling on your guitar is AMAZING, who made it for you?!?
Taylor Swift: We came up with the idea for the Our Song video shoot. I knew I wanted a really sparkly guitar and my stylist and I thought the best way was to glue thousands of swarovsky crystals on it and it's still my favourite guitar to play.
Question: Have you met all the famous people that you always wanted to meet when you were younger?
Taylor Swift: The only person I haven't got to meet that I look up to is Bono.
Question: Have you tried vegemite? do you like it? its an aussie favourite!!
Taylor Swift: I haven't tried vegemite but a few fans have given me containers of it so I might have to try it soon.
Question: Did you know when you were younger that you would be a musician?
What did your parents want you to be when you grew up?
Taylor Swift: When I was younger I thought I would grow up, go to college and be in business like my mum and dad. Then I fell in love with music. Even when I was trying to get a record deal I never thought I'd actually succeed this has all been a pleasant surprise for me.
Question: Do you feel you missed out on 'normal' teenage life because you've been focussing on working on your music?
Taylor Swift: I think that whatever path you chose in live you will miss something. For me music was all I wanted to do. I have a best friend off at college in Kansas and that's where I would be if I'd not left school to go on the road. We talk on the phone daily and she lets me on what it's like to be in college and I tell her what it's like to tour the world. I feel that because I got to go to regular high school, I got as much as a normal life as possible and I'll always be thankful for that. I think I'm a normal girl with a very abnormal schedule.
Question: what would you want to be if you weren't a singer?
Taylor Swift: If I wasn't a singer I think I'd want to be in advertising as I always think of commercials during the day.
Question: what does your ideal guy look like?
Taylor Swift: My ideal guy has a great laugh and finds humour in a lot of different things. the most important thing is a sense of humour. I've never had a specific type but I do like great hair.
Question: Do you feel pressure to look perfect all the time? you look amazing in your videos and photos but no one can wake up looking that hot!
Taylor Swift: I think that every girl wakes up and feels pressure to look perfect whether you are going to school or a red carpet. The only time I'm not insecure about something is when I'm on stage. When I'm on stage everything else melts away and it's just all about music. Everybody has days where they feel their hair looks horrible, I'm no different.
Question: do you feel like it's hard to know who your true friends are when you're so famous and rich?
Taylor Swift: I try not to be too paranoid about who is cool enough to be my friend, I try not to question people's motives or why they want to be friends with me. Because if I act like I'm too cool for everyone else I know I'll end up with no friends and I really just think that all someone has to do to be friends with me is to like me. I try not to get too caught up in the reasons why someone should be my friend.
Question: What would you say to people who wanted to be just like you and become such a fantastic person, role model and artist!?
Taylor Swift: Thanks so much for saying that! I think that the most important thing to do is try to figure out how to be yourself. When I was younger I used to hate the things about myself that made me different. When I was 13 I hated my curly hair and tried to straighten it. I didn't tell anyone at school I liked to sing cause I didn't want them to make fun of me. As I got older I realised that if there are things about you that make you different then you are lucky. I'm just lucky to have people like you out there helping me out and having my back.
Question: Finally, thanks for joining us Taylor! It has been awesome having you here. Any final comments for everyone who has joined us today?
Taylor Swift: I just want to say for everything guys and I love you and can't wait to see you all on tour.
