Riddle me this: Johnny Depp to star in the next Batman flick?

Following the success of Heath Ledger's Joker in The Dark Knight, The Riddler could be making a comeback as the main villain in the next Batman movie.

You may remember Jim Carrey's performance as The Riddler back in 1995. Well, the role is now being offered to Johnny Depp, according to media reports.

A source says the producers "are convinced that the role of The Riddler is perfect for Depp. Johnny's a pro. He'll be able to take direction from director Chris Nolan and still make the character his own".

We agree. The Pirates of the Caribbean star would be the perfect choice to inject some quirkiness into the character of The Riddler.

Word on the street is that the next movie will also see the return of another Batman enemy, The Penguin, who industry insiders are tipping will be played by Oscar-winner Philip Seymour Hoffman.

oh my god, if johnny joins the cast, he'll totally die. that movie is cursed!!! *girly squeal* the media is just blowing everything out of proportion when it comes to this film. johnny depp is a fabo actor and i thiknk he'd be fantastic!

The Dark Knight was a sensational movie, i have seen it four times. Heath Ledger definately owns that movie. Whenever he was not on the screen you were wishing he would come back. It is so great that johnny depp may be playing the role in the next batman movie. It is such a tribute to Heath Ledger have such a famous actor playing a role he did not get to complete. The dark knight completed Ledgers works. And he should be applauded for it. We will certainly miss his acting and he has definately become a true legend. I truly hope is daughter will grow up to know just how great he was and perhaps follow in his foot steps. It is such a tragedy that we have lost him. Let him rest in peace and never be forgotten. He is certainly part of movie history.

Even though I was not the biggest fan of Heath Ledger I was in awe of his performance in the Dark Knight. He was actually very scary and I can see why actors warned him off that role. Johnny Depp is also a great actor but I very much doubt that he could match Heath's performance!

I've seen The Dark Knight with Heath Ledger as the joker and his performance was mind-blowing!! Even though i'm a huge fan of Heath, this is the best performance he has ever done! Johnny Depp has alot to live up to after this movie so i hope if he is the next villain he will do as well as Ledger did. Coz i know i wouldn't want to be the next villian after Ledger done the joker so perfectly!

Johnny Depp would be perfect for the role, Heath was awesome in batman, and Johnny is and amazing actor. I think johnny would do Heath proud. he is also really really hot.

Johnny depp would be the best person to play the riddler.. as a massive fan of the original, i want someone who has just enough humour and querkiness for fill the space left by jim carey... the only person that could do a better job is carey himself

Although Depp is a really great actor, i dont think he, or anyone could ever be compared to Health Ledger, and his great passion for acting.
