Who is Demi Lovato and what makes her so cool?
Demi played Joe Jonas’ love interest in Camp Rock, is besties with fellow Disney-ette Selena Gomez ,has just released her debut album Don’t Forget, spent part of 2008 touring with The Jonas Brothers,and her new TV show Sonny With A Chance has just premiered on the Disney Channel! Plus she’s become quite the teen style-icon in the US, everyone’s loving her edgy rock look. You could say the girl’s just a tad multi-talented!

What was her life like growing up?
Demi’s certainly living the dream these days, but she has been through hard times. Her parents divorced when she was very young, and her mum re-married a man she would end up calling ‘Dad’. But Demi’s biological father came back into her life just last year, and she has now re-connected with him. She struggles to divide her time between her two Dads. Even celebrities can have complicated family lives just like the rest of us.
She was bullied?!
Yes indeed. Demi tells "There were girls I dealt with at my school, I thought they were my best friends but they turned on me, and that made it really hard" she says. “I would call my mum crying and say “Please take me out of school!”. In the end her mum decided to have her home-schooled. But it was a blessing in disguise because Demi picked up her guitar because she was so lonely. Now that’s how you turn lemons into lemonade!
How did Demi and Selena become besties?
Demi and Selena met as kids on an audition for Barney & Friends, and have been best friends ever since. When Demi started doing home schooling, Selena decided to do it to, so Demi wouldn’t be alone. “It was the true act of a best friend, and Selena was the only friend I had for about a year and a half” Demi says.
Is she dating anyone?
When Demi played Joe’s love interest in Camp Rock, rumours started that there was something going on between them in real life. But there was no truth to any of that- in fact, Demi has a little something going on with US actor Cody Linley! The couple dated for a while but they had to call it off because they are both too focussed on their careers. But who knows what might happen in the future?
What’s next for Demi?
Camp Rock was such a success that Demi’s been signed on to play Mitchie again in the sequel. Demi and Selena> also have a movie coming out mid ‘09 called Princess Protection Program. On the music front, Demi’s album was only released last week in Australia, so we’ll be watching the charts to see how high she can go.
