We've been jealous of Ms Hathaway more than a few times now: getting to live out dreams of being a princess; working with Jake Gyllenhaal; getting a completely stocked wardrobe for The Devil Wears Prada; and now to top it all off she has just wrapped up a movie with funnyman Steve Carell — can you imagine what "working" with him would be like? We bet it wouldn't be much work at all.

She was born in Brooklyn, New York City and lived there until her family moved to New Jersey when she was six years old. In her childhood Anne didn't dream of being a vet or a fashion designer like most ambitious young girls, she actually wanted to be a nun! But then she discovered acting when she was in her teens, completely changing her future.

Even though she has left her religious intentions behind, she looks exactly like she could be your goofy, squeaky-clean best friend. It must have helped her land her first movie role in the 2001 film The Princess Diaries, because the character, Mia, was a complete match to her personality.

The director of The Princess Diaries has since said that he was given a great first impression when Anne fell off her chair in the interview — it was exactly the look he was after. Not wanting to give up her countless gowns and the opportunity to kiss a prince or two, she took on other regal roles in Princess Diaries 2 and Ella Enchanted.

Since her first two films she has been concentrating on finishing university, more acting projects and chasing up her next movie. With her track record of enviable roles we can only guess ... chocolate sampler? Singer? An extra on Bondi Rescue? Watch this space.
