Big whiteheads

Tuesday, July 17, 2007

Dear DOLLY DR, I am not a pimply person at all, I rarely get them on my face, it's always fairly clear, only a little bit of dry skin and stuff. But lately I've been getting a few really big whiteheads under my armpits and it's really humiliating when I go to the beach (and I am always at the beach) because I know people look at them. Is there anything I can do to prevent these from popping up every so often? I use face wash to clear them but is there any way to get rid of them completely? Berrie.

Acne, or pimples, do not affect the armpits, although some related conditions can. Cysts or infections of the sweat glands or the hair follicles, if you have been shaving your armpits, could be causing your little white lumps, but these would be painful. It's also possible they aren't white heads, but a pale skin tag, which is harmless. Various other skin lumps and bumps can also occur in this area. As I can't tell much more without seeing them, I suggest you pay a visit to your doctor for a proper check up.
