Got some spare time on your hands? Why not have a go at making some of these healthy and tasty summer snacks. They're quick, easy and that sure beats cleaning your room!
Strawberry Smoothie
WHAT YOU NEED:
A punnet of strawberries, 11/2 cups of milk (preferably low-fat or soy) and honey. You can also add low-fat yoghurt and other berries.
1. Wash and hull strawberries, then cut them in half.
2. Put the strawberries, milk and teaspoon of honey into a blender (as well as yoghurt and other berries), and blend until smooth.
3. Pour into a glass and garnish with a strawberry.
Strawberry tarts
WHAT YOU NEED:
A punnet of strawberries, small carton of custard, packet of mini tart bases and packet of redcurrent jelly crystals.
1. Wash and hull strawberries, then cut them into quarters.
2. Pour custard into the tart bases so each one is about a quarter full.
3. Carefully place strawberries on top of the custard.
4. Make a glaze by heating 3 tbsp of jelly crystals and 11/2 tbsp of water in a pot until dissolved, then remove from heat. Let glaze cool for a bit, then spoon it over the strawberries.
5. Refrigerate tarts until set.
Fruit kebabs with yoghurt
WHAT YOU NEED:
Watermelon, strawberries, rockmelon, pineapple and any other fruit you love. You also need kebab sticks and yoghurt of your choice.
1. Wash all the fruit.
2. Cut it into pieces, then skewer a few bits onto each kebab stick.
3. Pour the yoghurt into a bowl to serve.
4. Dip kebabs in the yoghurt, then eat!
Fruit salad with marshmallows
WHAT YOU NEED:
Your favourite fruit, try: strawberries, watermelon, passionfruit, pineapple, apple, pear, rockmelon, lychee and banana; a packet of marshmallows; mint leaves.
1. Wash all the fruit.
2. Cut fruit into bite-sized pieces.
3. Put all the fruit in a bowl, then add marshmallows. Mix together and serve. Garnish with mint leaves for a summery flavour.
