An important message from Tiff...

Here at DOLLY HQ, we love Twitter. We love reading our fave celebs' random thoughts, hearing what you guys are up to and getting up-to-date on the latest breaking news. But what we DON'T love is when Twitter is used as a way to encourage others to harm themselves.

Today's campaign to #cutforbieber is upsetting on so many levels. Self-harm is no joking matter — it's a serious problem for many teens and a condition that an increasing number of young girls (and guys) are suffering from. There's nothing clever or glamorous about it and it's an insult to anyone who struggles with self-harming to suggest otherwise.

On another note, if this "campaign" was started to "help" Justin Bieber, how exactly is it doing that? All that #cutforbieber is doing is hurting vulnerable teens who need support, not encouragement to self-harm.

It's not often I feel the need to blog about social media but this is one instance I couldn't let go by — reading comments from Twitter users who have self-harmed in the past and who are now saying this campaign is a trigger for them is incredibly upsetting to all of us here at DOLLY HQ.

So for anyone participating in this conversation on Twitter, I urge you to stop and think about how your words are affecting others. And for those who are finding the messages overwhelming, PLEASE talk to somebody. ReachOut Australia (ReachOut.com) has qualified and confidential support services — I urge you to contact them.
